Well-equipped and trained, the Indian air force is clearly the most powerful in the region with 113,000 men and 910 combat aircraft. Soviet designs make up the bulk of the Indian air force and are often license-built on Indian soil, but Western (non-American) types are in the inventory as well. The navy has an aircraft carrier and operates FRS.51 Sea Harrier jets. Tensions are high with neighboring Pakistan, and the two countries have clashed on the border in recent years.
